Starting to roll

Starting to roll

This painting tells a story of becoming. It is inspired by Albin, who grew up in Märsta in Sweden, a place shaped by contrasts, cultures, classes, concrete and the quiet longing for nature. Beneath this layered environment lived a quieter struggle: learning to exist in a body that felt exposed, different, and, for a long time, not enough. As a child, Albin tried to disappear. He walked behind others, hid his body, avoided spaces where he might be seen, as he walked differently, due to cerebral palsy. Through movement, through skateboarding, falling, trying again, he found a new relationship to himself. What once felt like limitation became expression. What was hidden stepped into the open. Pride slowly replaced shame. Freedom replaced fear.
