Waiting for them
Waiting for them
Rhagdan is a young activist from Sudan who recently helped her family escape a brutal war. This painting is based on a photo and some memories she shared with me. It pictures her at a bus stop in Egypt at the border to Sudan, on the day of her parents and family finally leaving the country. She was waiting for two days, seated under the shadow of a shop, not knowing which bus her family would be on. The experience of the threat of violence multiple times in her life has forced Rhagdan to build resilience in situations of powerlessness. Through her work as an activist she gains that power back.
